Message of the piece:
This piece is supposed to represent my current mind. The future is impending and coming even though I don't want time to come. I'm locked into the future even though I want to go back to the past where I was still a naïve and free child. My future looks grim and scary and my past looks so happy. Truthfully, the piece is just a visual of me not wanting to apply to college.

Artist's Statement:
I started with a basic thumbnail of what I wanted to draw. Looking at it, the composition was really wierd with the canvas being a normal rectangle. It cut the paper into weird sections and wasn't flattering. That's why I turned the canvas to be a diamond. It flowed better and showed direction and movement. The arrows that were created by the corners of the canvas represented a timeline. The girl faces left because the left is normally the past on timelines. There is a chain connecting her down to the right of the canvas, the future. The composition was still off so I added chains in the background to add to the flow of the piece. since her body was curved from top left to bottom right, I made the chains go from top right to bottom left. When I started painting, it was hard since I didn't plan out color schemes or anything so I ended up just going with the flow. The girl looked naked So I added a dress with gouache. The outcome isn't the best but I like the idea of the piece.
