Artist's Statement:

For this piece, I wanted to try a small animation and from the start, I knew I wanted to do a simple wink. When I started, I just did the frames for the single blinking eye because I ignorantly thought that the rest of the face would stay the same and I could just copy and paste. When I tried this out, it turned out weird because the face was completely still but the eye moved. I had to go back and repair the faces. I originally tried to do a rough animation where the skin wasn’t blended but when I tried it out, the skin coloring moved and it took away from the wink. I went back and blended it out. As I animated the skin, I found out that I couldn’t just move the eyebrows down to fix the unmoving face, it I had to make minute changes everywhere. I also had to make sure the first and last frame where exactly the same so the loop would look continuous. The eyebrow hairs had to be in the same position even if the eyebrow moved because the eyebrow didn’t move much so the hair is noticeable. I the other hand though, I could freely draw eyelashes anywhere on the winking eye because the eye moved faster so the eyelashes weren’t as visible. Again, only the first and last slides had to match or else there would be a jump in eyelashes.

It was difficult to do this project cause I didn’t plan it out so every time I added a detail, I had to draw it for every frame and make sure it moves properly with the rest of the piece.
